Behind the scenes with AD Bill Laughey

In the latest behind the scenes blog, Assistant Director Bill Laughey talks to us briefly about his role in the rehearsal and production process:

“My job title on Miss Julie is Assistant Director.

For me that means chipping in with the occasional suggestion whilst trying not to tread on the main man’s toes.

Andy has a big role in this and it isn’t easy to direct and play a big part both at the same time and that is where I come in. And it is a pleasure.

Assistant Director Bill Laughey works through the script.

Gemma,  Victoria and Andy are all such excellent actors and any suggestions I can make they tend to improve on several times over.

Miss Julie is a great little play. Taught and tense – it pretty much plays out in real time. In the space of ninety minutes and with only three central characters Strindberg creates a gripping and really meaty piece of drama. And Gemma has done a brilliant job with the script. I am looking forwards to seeing it in the performance. Immensely!”

Miss Julie runs from 15th January to 7th February at venues across Yorkshire. See for all details.
